3 Tips for Selecting Sanitary Powder Processing Equipment

It’s no secret that sanitation is paramount for food and dairy powder processors. After all, no one wants to put consumers—or the company’s reputation—at risk with a tainted food product. From our perspective, efficiently and effectively ensuring the safety of food begins with having the right sanitary powder processing equipment in place.

But with so many customization options and industry standards to consider, finding the right sanitary solution for your specific product’s needs is a big task.

In January, our own sanitary processing expert, Scott Lodermeier, wrote an article for Powder and Bulk Engineering magazine to outline the industry design standards, as well as offer helpful insights to help powder processors and manufacturers, like you, make the right sanitary equipment decisions.

In the article, Scott offered three key insights that every processor should keep in mind when researching and selecting sanitary processing equipment:

  1. Educate yourself. The first step in your search for sanitary processing equipment is to learn about current (and potential future) sanitary standards and how they apply to the equipment you’re researching. This will not only help you better understand your needs, but also what to look for when you begin shopping for equipment.
  1. Be aware of marketing tactics. To put it simply, don’t trust everything you read while researching different sanitary equipment options. Equipment suppliers use a variety of tactics that may misrepresent their credentials and mislead consumers.
  1. Work with professionals. Working with experienced, knowledgeable professionals is the best way to ensure that your equipment is designed and built with efficiency and product safety in mind. Work with an equipment supplier that fully understands 3-A sanitary standards, as well as how construction materials, design, surface finishes, and fabrication techniques combine to make equipment and systems hygienic and easy to clean.
